Different teaching techniques and methods are used at the conservatory. The Meisner technique is a systematic and methodical approach that allows the artist to return to their emotional impulses and actions rooted in instincts. By doing a series of energetic exercises, this technique creates a reliable methodology for acting mastery. Students use their imagination to be emotionally charged and expressive. Thus, each student becomes more individualized, genuine and dramatic.Â
To work with their voice, future actors study deconstruction methods to releave tension in the body and release breathing impulses. Actors learn the basics of breathing, posture and articulation skills. The main goal is to release everyday tension through yoga, the Alexander Technique and movements. Actors also study the basics of anatomy and physiology to provide solid vocal support.
At the conservatory, students are taught how to analyze a screenplay by understanding the fundamentals of the three-act structure: action, climax and finale. Storytelling is studied in a way that allows the artist to uncover the underlying narrative hidden behind the words on the pages of a script or book.
In the advanced level course, students are encouraged to apply everything they have learned in the two previous Meisner Technique courses. This marks the beginning of work with the character. The actor moves on to the next level of discipline, where they make specific choices, interpret the script and experiment with making each role contrastive and different.
An important quality for an actor is the ability to “sell their talent.” For this purpose, the conservatory created a course on the basics of the entertainment business. Based on Thomas Crowell’s book “The Pocket Lawyer for Filmmakers,” actors learn to balance their creativity with the realities of show business.Â
Future screenwriters are taught the craft of writing a feature film. Students study the structure of a screenplay, character development, the creation of each act, staging specifics, as well as devise plot twists that raise the stakes in each story. In this course, a paradigm of screenplay mastery is described, which expands the writer’s imagination.
Future directors study stage production. Staging is one of the director’s most powerful tools. Students learn about blocking and how to boost productivity and create great visual images using this important skill.
The conservatory campus is located in a unique place on the waterfront
The LAPAC educational campus is located on Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, California. This coastal city in western Los Angeles County attracts tourists with its mild climate, scenic nature and nightlife. Santa Monica offers a diverse range of leisure activities, from beach vacations and shopping to active sports and cultural excursions.
The campus is equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Modern recording studios, lecture halls, a concert hall, computer labs and much more are available to students of all courses.
Classes at the conservatory are held in quarters: winter, spring, summer and fall. Students do not study on national and international holidays.
What are the requirements for applicants?
The admission process to the conservatory for foreign students consists of several stages:
- Filling out the international application form.
- Sending the necessary documents via email to the admissions office.
- Payment of the application fee of $150.
- After receiving a favorable response from the conservatory staff, the I-20 Form must be completed to obtain an F-1 student visa.
- Payment of the SEVIS fee.
- Interview at the U.S. Embassy in your home country.
- Approval of the visa and its receipt.
- Arrival at the campus to begin studies.
Future students coming from other countries need to provide the following documents:

The conservatory also has special admission criteria for each of the programs
- For the acting program: a video ranging from 3 to 8 minutes in English. It should be a monologue excerpt from any work.
- For the filmmaking/directing program: a 5-7 minute video shot by the applicant or 5-7 pages of a creative letter.
- For the screenwriting program: 5-7 pages of a creative letter.
The entrance application should be submitted at least three months before the start of the chosen program.
How much money do applicants have to spend to study at the conservatory?
Certainly, every person’s financial expenses are different, but it is important for each student to cover the essentials. The application fee for admission to the conservatory costs $150. Approximately $570 will be spent on books and supplies. Housing rent for 9 months will be around $9700. Student health insurance costs $1657 per year and do not forget to add personal expenditure.
Graduates of the conservatory receive a junior specialist degree in their chosen field and then continue their education at universities or start working at local film companies, starting their career path.
