The composer’s childhood and education
The future poet was born in Los Angeles in 1912. His father was an inventor who constructed a diesel submarine that did not emit exhaust gases. His mother worked as a journalist for the Los Angeles Times.
Since his boyhood, the lad has had an interest in music. His parents were able to provide their kid with the option to study with private teachers in Los Angeles. In general, Cage was a creative person who loved to play the piano and aspired to be a writer and artist. At the age of 12, John persuaded a local radio station to air a weekly program featuring his musical band. This is because the young man and his fellow musicians formed an ensemble in which they performed the trombone, trumpet and piano.
John graduated from high school in Los Angeles with distinction. He made the decision to attend Claremont College. The young man, however, never graduated from the college. In 1933, John sent his works to American composer Henry Cowell, who praised the young man’s efforts. He introduced John Cage to Arnold Schoenberg. Schoenberg educated John for some time.
